Description

If the Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many of you may not have known but Marvel Comics made a comic book adaptation of the movie, and then a monthly series which lasted only 10 issues.  Each issues is about a character who encounter or was influenced by the Monolith in some way in either the prehistoric past or the then-future, and would end up becoming a Star Child (or "New Seed" as referred to in the comics).  Issue 8 features a robot who gained sentience by the Monolith, calling himself Mr. Machine.  In the 10th and last issue, the Monolith doesn't appear, and it was likely at that point that Marvel decided Mr. Machine was an interesting character of his own and incorporated him into the Marvel Universe, now calling himself Machine Man.  References to 2001 was rarely made since, but whenever it does it would reveal that the Monolith was created by the Celestials.

The Celestials were first mentioned in Guardians of the Galaxy (and one was shown via flashback).  The Monoliths would likely be creations of the MCU Celestials as well.

That does makes me wonder how the MCU--or really anyone--would introduce Machine Man since his original origin is tied to 2001.
