Isabella Hernández, the "founding mother" of the city of Isabella, CA.
A woman of Spanish descent, she came to California and established a settlement near a lake, which eventually evolved into the city.
She was a very kind and generous woman. While the township was originally populated by Spanish people and a few WASPs, she welcomes people from other nations and cultures into her town. They include African ex-slaves, Russians, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalogs, Hmongs, Koreans, Greeks, and Germans.
A monument of her stands at the city square in front of City Hall. It has an inscription that says "The heart of a good person can influence all".
